Adobe Experience Manager Fundamentals

Build a beginner-friendly foundation in Adobe Experience Manager. Across two days of short explanations, demos, and guided exercises, participants learn how AEM supports content teams to create, manage, and publish consistent digital experiences.

What will you learn?

You will understand AEM building blocks and create a small, reusable site section using editable templates and core components. You will organize assets, use content fragments and experience fragments for reuse, apply basic governance with permissions and workflows, and publish changes safely.

After this training you will be confident in:

  • Explaining AEM’s authoring model, the role of author and publish, and where AEM fits in a martech stack
  • Creating editable templates, page policies, and pages that use core components
  • Managing assets in the DAM, including folders, metadata, versions, and renditions
  • Using content fragments and experience fragments to drive reuse across pages and channels
  • Applying tags, search, and basic permissions to keep content organized and secure
  • Publishing, reviewing, and rolling back changes with simple governance

Requirements:

  • Basic familiarity with web content and site structures
  • Comfort using web applications and a modern browser
  • Access to an AEM sandbox or training environment with author permissions

Module 1: AEM orientation and key concepts
  • What AEM is, and how author and publish environments work
  • AEM Sites overview, content repository basics, and roles
  • Tour of the AEM UI, consoles, and quick settings

Module 2: Templates, policies, and core components
  • Editable templates vs static templates at a high level
  • Page policies, allowed components, and layout basics
  • Core components overview and when to customize vs configure

Module 3: Building pages the right way
  • Creating a site structure with folders and page hierarchies
  • Authoring with the page editor, responsive layout, and in-context editing
  • Versioning, page properties, preview, and publish

Module 4: Digital assets management basics
  • Organizing the DAM with folder structure and metadata
  • Uploading, renditions, and basic image transformations
  • Searching, smart tags overview, and asset version management
Module 5: Content fragments and experience fragments
  • When to use content fragments for headless and omnichannel reuse
  • Creating a content fragment model and fragment variants
  • Experience fragments for reusable page sections and promotions
  • Placing fragments on pages and managing updates

Module 6: Tagging, search, and permissions
  • Tag namespaces, applying tags, and building findable content
  • Using search filters and saved searches for editorial efficiency
  • Basics of user groups, permissions, and secure authoring areas

Module 7: Workflows, review, and publishing
  • Out-of-the-box workflows for review and approvals
  • Scheduling activation, publishing trees, and managing rollbacks
  • Change tracking with timelines and references to avoid broken links

Module 8: Operating AEM safely as a beginner
  • Content governance checklists for releases and campaigns
  • Dispatcher and caching concepts in plain language
  • Environments and promotion paths overview in AEM as a Cloud Service
  • When to involve developers or admins and how to brief them effectively
